Designed by Owens and built by Hinckley, Radiant is an outstanding example of vessel built RIGHT by one of the most renowned builders of wood sailing yachts in the world, at the time at the peak of their powers. As the HInckley marketing brochure said back in the day, "Hinckley's traditionally excellent standards of Downeast worksmanship under daily supervision assures a sound investment of an American built yacht to give years of favorable return in pleasure, comfort and seaworthiness."

Designed by Norman Owens of Owens Boat builders in Maryland sometime in the early 1940s, they built about 45 of these sleek, fast cutters (they said the she was conceived as "a big, fast deep-water boat with a small, flexible rig, excellent balance, high freeboard and a large cockpit, designed to be easy for one man to handle."). However, Owens was primarily a power boat builder and in the late '40s the three brothers decided to offer the plans to Hinckley, who continued building them into the mid-1950s (Radiant is either the final or second-to-final Owens-Hinckleys to ever come off the ways).

Double planked bronze-fastened cedar and Philippine mahogany planks with glued seams on oak frames with bronze floors, a lead-ballasted full keel with cut-away forefoot and teak decks. And note she's not just a pretty face: Radiant was a regular participant in San Francisco's Master Mariners' Regatta for years and years, and Peter Sutter of Sutter Sails is reported to have said, "My whole generation raced aboard Radiant."

Owner for the past 25 years not sailing as much now and motivated to sell, price just reduced and offers encouraged.
