1974 Islander 36

Sausalito, California

$24,000

With almost 800 launched, the Islander 36 has proven one of the most popular 36' sailboats ever built, and remains one of the most active one-design fleets on the Bay. With the deep keel option (which this vessel has), skeg hung rudder and keel-stepped mast, the I-36 is a stiff boat that handles the typical Bay summer winds with aplomb while also doing well in light airs.

And not surprisingly with her comfortable cockpit and spacious interior, the design is also well-suited for cruising and you regularly see them heading to Mexico and points South as part of the Baja Ha-Ha fleet. For more comments and insight on this U.S.-built classic, do a Google search for "Islander 36", then link to the I-36 Owner's Association.

This particular example has had the same owner for 30 years and is still sailed regularly; she's largely original but very clean and very competitively priced given her condition; she's also lying in a potentially transferable Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip so is a nice neat package if you're able to take advantage!

Last hauled and bottom painted in June 2022 and regular dive service since, about 1,000 hours on rebuilt Pathfinder diesel (engine serviced in December 2022 by List Marine, they've been doing this boat for literally decades), new bow pulpit, fresh water pumps and exhaust elbow in 2021, refurbished Martec folding prop in 2020, new standing rigging, lifelines and LED nav lights in 2019, new main (2015) and new 135% jib (2019) on oversized roller furler (2018), stainless steel fuel tank and shaft in 2015, etc etc etc.
