1979 C&C sloop

Sausalito, California

$29,500

C & C was well known in her day for producing "fast, good looking and well built boats that could compete in Wednesday night club races and also take the family on a week-long cruise in comfort" (Professional BoatBuilder, Jan. 2005), and this particular example is well found, shows MUCH newer than her actual age, is VERY competitively priced and sails like a witch!

Much updated equipment, note especially new North Sails 3D 110% jib (2020), new batteries in late 2022, repowered with a Yanmar diesel in 1996, this engine is for all practical purposes new (and just serviced in late June 2023). Also tastefully redone interior, updated electronics, recent running rigging/roller furler/sails, all brightwork is immaculate, much more, you'll not find a cleaner performance cruiser of similar vintage anywhere. Note that this is the deep fixed keel version of the design, much preferable to the swing keel for typical Bay conditions.

Note also that she's lying downtown Sausalito in a potentially transferable Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip; there's a long waiting list to get into this marina, so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage.

Designer Rob Ball's Comments
The C&C 36 design follows on the heels of two very successful predecessors - our C&C 33 and C&C 38. The hull's fine deep forefoot ensures good upwind tracking and ability in a seaway, while the full quarter sections add sailing length when heeled or at speed. These features, coupled with improvement in basic keel design, result in a fast, comfortable yacht.

The deck arrangement includes improved comforts for crew or family with more comfortable seating, open coamings and recessed cleats in a basic T-shaped cockpit. The mainsheet traveller, always a toe stubber, has been incorporated in the cabin top to further enhance the capacious cockpit and permit easy movement through the companionway. Traveller controls and simplified, resulting in easier handling of the C&C 36 at the same time. A full depth anchor well is incorporated in the foredeck facilitating the job of anchoring and relieves the aft lockers of this stowage problem as well. The tripod rig and double spreaders provide solid fixity for the spar while at the same time providing the feature of accurate spar adjustment. The 36 incorporates a full length trough along the rail with a drain to provide overboard discharge of rain water preventing traditional streaking of the hull and requiring less maintenance.

Below, the C&C 36 has broadened the cabin sole area in the galley and main cabin, allowing more comfortable sleeping and seating arrangements. The quarter berth and navigator's area include lined, dry lockers, spacious chart table and more drawer space for stowage. The electrical panel has been relocated to improve accessibility for the navigator as well as the crew.

The first production prototype, SUPER SPLURGE, won its division against very stiff one-ton competition in the 1977 Ediu Race on Long Island Sound. This is more remarkable since it was the first race for this boat.
