1979 CT 41 Formosa ketch
Classic Bill Garden-designed traditional ketch built by the storied Ta Chiao Shipbuilding Company and priced way below market as part of an estate sale. The boat has all the charm in the world and shows well having just been detailed, beyond that we don't know a whole lot about her other than the Perkins diesel runs, the canvas is in decent shape, sails seem serviceable and reportedly a good bit of rigging work was done in 2016, last hauled and bottom painted in 2020.
These Bill Garden designs are joy to sail, they're not fast but nowhere near as slow as some claim, and some say they won't go to wind at all but this isn't true, they will! Not like a modern design of course, but I promise they will! They are a bit tender at first and the low freeboard make it quite easy to take water on deck on the leeward side, but they are very easily balanced with the split rig; the ride will be smooth and comfortable in the 30 knots of wind and 6 ft waves we typically have here on the Bay.
