1983 Tartan 42

Sausalito, California

$49,000

Designed by the legendary Sparkman & Stephens to be a comfortable performance crusier, the Tartan 42 is an evolution of the Tartan 41 (which was a potent ocean racing vessel--the design won both the Transpac and Bermuda races) that's equally at home ocean cruising or round-the-buoys club racing. And in the tradition of most S & S designs from the period, the 42 has fine lines with a lot of tumblehome, a swept back forefoot and a skeg-hung rudder. They also have wide, uncluttered decks, and an easily-handled sloop rig.

This particular never cruised example was originally commissioned in Texas and was trucked to CA about 20 years ago by her current owners. Note beautiful interior joinery, Garmin color chartplotter with radar overlay (2017) and new standing and running rigging in late 2020 (this was a $30,000 job in and of itself!), engine just serviced September 2021 and last bottom painted October 2019; also note this is the optional deep-draft keel (most 42s had the 4' 11 shoal draft Scheel keel, Wind Seeker is 6' 9 [fixed, this is NOT a centerboard]!).
