1987 Californian 42 motoryacht

Sausalito, California

$134,000

The US-built Californians have a reputation of offering a lot of boat for the money, and the 42' motoryacht is a perfect example why: with a beam of more than 15' and 6'4 headroom throughout , it offers the space of a 45 or 46 footer, but for WAY less money! AND she displaces almost 40,000 pounds, so is stable, safe and comfortable in the Bay's typically choppy waters.

The Californian's remain perennially popular on the brokerage market, and this particular two stateroom, galley down example shows bristol both topside and below--interior in particular has been professionally redone top to bottom (hardwood floors, window treatments, headliner) and literally shows AS NEW, the gelcoat gleams and the engine room is spotless--Orion really must be seen to be believed.

Some highlights: lovely special-ordered black walnut interior joinery (while not particularly noteworthy on big custom yachts, it's very rare to find walnut on a production boat), fully enclosed aft deck and flybridge with all new canvas and Makrolon glass (this was a $20,000 project that was just completed this June), aft deck table the curve of which exactly matches the aft deck rail (the owner searched for MONTHS for this piece and she's very proud of it!), last hauled and bottom painted December 2020 and engines serviced at the same time, new batteries, Vacuflush toilets, reverse cycle heat/air conditioning, washer/dryer, tastefully furnished and being sold turn key.

Having said all this, the REAL draw for the right buyer is the slip: she's lying in THE nicest slip in Marina Plaza with superb views of Richardson Bay and Belvedere, and will be allowed to remain; there's a long waiting list to get ANY slip of this size in Sausalito so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage...

Accommodations

Over/under bunks in forward stateroom with full private head (which has an enclosed stall shower) en suite. Step aft to galley down with raised dinette port side and full U-shaped galley port.

Up three steps aft to main salon with lower steering station and brand new mid-century modern-style sofa starboard, built in entertainment center (and electric fireplace!) port. From salon, up aft to enclosed aft deck or down aft to master stateroom with centerline queen and private en suite head (also with stall shower).

From salon, up three steps aft to fully enclosed aft deck from which up to spacious flybridge which is also fully enclosed with loads of comfortable seating.

Note interior joinery is beautiful, flawless black walnut (unusual on a production yacht, though I did see a $19,000,000 custom megayacht at the Miami boat show with a similar interior), light and airy with 6'4 headroom throughout with three reverse cycle heat/air conditioners covering the entire boat. And the aft deck and flybridge are enclosed with brand new canvas and Makrolon, with a load-bearing hardtop over aft deck.
